How to keep your Cuban link shining

From the counter at 1059 NE Pine Island Rd, Cape Coral

Real gold doesn’t rust and doesn’t fade — but it does collect skin oil, sunscreen and Florida sweat, and that film is what makes a chain look tired. Good news: the fix costs almost nothing.

The 10-minute home clean

That’s it. Done monthly, a Cuban link stays showroom-bright for years.

What actually dulls gold in Florida

Pool chlorine is the one to respect — over time it attacks the alloy metals, especially in 10K/14K. Take the chain off before the pool or hot tub. Salt water is gentler but rinse after the beach anyway. Perfume, cologne and sunscreen leave the film that kills shine — jewelry goes on last, after everything dries.

Storage

Chains scratch chains. Give each piece its own pouch or a separate slot — never a drawer where three Cubans wrestle each other. Clasp closed, laid flat or hung, away from humidity.

The scratches people call “wear” are usually storage scratches. The pouch is free; use it.
